Memos to Morons - part seven

TO: Disney

RE: Hannah Montana

I read recently read how you pulled an episode of Hannah Montana over a controversial storyline about a teen coping with a disease. The storyline was deemed "inappropriate" for the rabid tweeners who fanatically watch this schlock.

Was the disease in question something taboo like necrophilia?

No.

Nymphomania?

No.

Dipsomania?

No.

HIV or AIDS, maybe?

Nope.

It was diabetes.

As someone who lives with type one diabetes, I must say I take issue with this.

According to one of your spokespeople:

"Notwithstanding the measures we took, and based on the episode's preview and early feedback from parents, we removed the episode from Sunday's schedule and are now reevaluating it," the Disney rep said."
That sounds very responsible of you, except it appears that the "early feedback" from parents were complaints about the topic being covered at all on the show.

Way to have balls, Disney!

And speaking of balls, is it not a bit odd that those same concerns about appropriateness weren't anywhere to be found while marketing and distributing some rather disturbing Hannah Montana merchandise?

  1. No kidding....you would think that Disney and the like would have learned something by now.
