According to
Wikipedia, today is
International Day Against Homophobia. The timing is auspicious given that only days ago, the California Supreme Court
overturned the ban on gay marriages. Los Angeles County is gearing up for
Same Sex Marriage Licenses and TV talk show host
Ellen DeGeneres and screenwriter
John August have already announced their intentions to take advantage of the new ruling and marry their longtime partners. I have a feeling it's going to be a busy summer for wedding planners in California this summer!
According to Wikipedia:
"May 17th was chosen as the day of the event because homosexuality was removed from the International Classification of Diseases of the World Health Organization (WHO) on May 17, 1990...It should also be noted that on May 17, 2004, Massachusetts became the first state in the United States of America to legalize same-sex marriage."
Today is also
World Information Society Day which celebrates changes brought by the Internet and new technologies.
Party on!
